Coach Ji

Meet Ji (pronounced like the letter "G")

With a martial arts journey that began at the age of 12 in taekwondo, Ji has earned an impressive 3rd-degree black belt. As his skills grew, so did his passion for teaching, leading him to embark on a teaching career upon achieving his black belt in 2010.

Having participated in numerous tournaments, Ji's passion for unarmed combat led him to the world of MMA in 2013, where he thrived and discovered jiujitsu. Currently a purple belt in jiujitsu, Ji continues to teach the art, inspiring others on their own martial arts journey.

Before joining the Marines in 2014, Ji dived into boxing coaching for a year. During his service, he immersed himself in striking and grappling classes, teaching fellow service members, and competing in pankration and #open weight kickboxing/grappling tournaments. In 2017, Ji secured a spot on the prestigious USMC boxing team, gaining the opportunity to participate in international fights.

Following his service in 2019, Ji's dedication to the sport led him to engage in four more MMA fights, despite battling asthma and various injuries. Ultimately, he decided to pursue his true passion – coaching and teaching.

At Oceanside Athletic Club, Ji's goal is to equip everyone with the tools he wishes he had known earlier in his journey. His ultimate aim is to empower individuals to defend themselves and their loved ones if the need ever arises. With his wealth of experience and dedication, Ji is an invaluable addition to the coaching team at OAC.
