It's time to Fight Back!

Rock Steady Boxing, a unique exercise program, based on training used by boxing pros and adapted for people with Parkinson’s disease, is now available in the Oceanside area. The program involves non-contact, boxing enriched fitness classes attacking PD at its most vulnerable neurological points. Addressing balance, instability, rigidity, tremors, "shuffling", "freezing", and so much more. Led by experienced and RSB certified trainers/coaches Tabitha Newton and Alex Higley, Rock Steady Boxing Oceanside serves both men and women of all ages and levels of ability.

What's Class Like?

Classes, taught by Certified Rock Steady Boxing Coaches, include an exercise program that attacks Parkinson’s at its vulnerable neurological points. While focusing on overall fitness, strength training, reaction time and balance, workouts include: ring work, focus mitts, heavy bags, speed bags, double-ended bags, jump rope, core work, calisthenics and circuit weight training. No boxing experience is necessary, and people of all ages are invited to participate. Boxers, both male and female, range in age from mid-30s to early 90s.

Why Rock Steady?

Boxing is a high intensity full body workout that challenges balance, gait, range of movement, cognitive skills and more in a way that uniquely benefits Parkinson’s patients. The Rock Steady Boxing program is designed to capitalize on the benefits of boxing but with drills that focus on improving the quality of life for persons with Parkinson’s.

RSB boxers have reported benefits including lower dosages of medicine, reduced tremors, improved balance and overall enhanced quality of life. Parkinson’s disease affects every individual differently and thus, results from the RSB program will vary. The exercise program will also match your individual needs and will challenge you at your fitness and ability level.

Hi there! I'm Coach Ari, and I'm thrilled to be a part of the Rock Steady Boxing program at Oceanside Athletic Club. Originally from New Mexico, I found my way to Oceanside after my service in the Marine Corps, where I served as a Wrecker Operator during a deployment to Afghanistan from 2010 to 2014.

Post-Marine Corps, my passion for combat sports ignited. Starting with Judo, I transitioned to Jiujitsu, and eventually, my love for boxing took center stage. With six years of boxing experience, I've become a USA Boxing certified coach with two years of coaching under my belt, and I'm eager for many more to come!

My coaching journey includes leading group classes, assisting in training the amateur boxing team, and providing private training sessions. When you train with me, expect a disciplined yet enjoyable environment focusing on boxing technique, conditioning, and overall fitness.

Beyond my love for boxing, I recently graduated with a bachelor's in communications, and my sights are set on pursuing a master's program to become a Dietitian.

Fun fact: While living in Charlotte, NC I had the privilege of training with professional boxer Lavonte Earley (@Von_WCG) for three years. He is now one of my best friends and mentor!

My goal at Oceanside Athletic Club is to help people achieve their health and fitness goals and learn to have fun while doing so! Fitness should not seem like a chore. Let’s learn to take care of our bodies, so they take care of us!

Hi! 👋 I’m Coach Tabitha,  coach for Rock Steady Boxing Oceanside!

I first began training in boxing in 2020 when my husband and I opened Oceanside Athletic Club. Chris and I have dreamt of building a club that would serve Oceanside through community, martial arts and fitness. It’s been amazing to see that dream come to life, and I am excited to join the fight against Parkinson’s Disease!

I am passionate about helping men and women who would not normally walk into any gym – let alone a boxing gym – transform their bodies and their self-image. I will encourage people of all ages and abilities to feel confident, powerful and strong, no matter where they are at physically at this very moment. It doesn’t matter if you are not able to run, or even walk – boxing can empower you from a seated position to take back control of your health and your life.

A little about me… My life revolves around my family, our gym, and my own health journey. My daughter Amelia, now 5, keeps us on our toes with her boundless energy. I’m committed to my fitness goals through bodybuilding, nutrition, walks, with a little boxing mixed in. While free time is limited, I’d love to start traveling and camping more, and I’m working toward that elusive work-life balance. When I’m not working, you’ll often find me at the park with Amelia or relaxing at home. As I carve out more time for myself, I look forward to enjoying some of my favorite hobbies—surfing, painting, camping, reading, and just unwinding.

My goal with RSB is to help improve my fighter’s quality of life. I will plan challenging classes with a focus on boxing and functional movements. Don’t worry, I will meet you at your level with modifications to accommodate your individual needs while pushing you to your limit. I understand that some days will be harder than others, and on those days, I just ask that you show up and do the best you can.

Let’s get to work! 🥊🙌
